Air Transport Licensing Authority
The Air Transport Licensing Authority (the Authority) has been established under the Civil Aviation Law of 2002 (Law 213(I)/2002). The Authority operates as an independent body and is responsible for issuing, renewing, suspending and revoking operating licences for air carriers established in the Republic of Cyprus, in accordance with the requirements set out in European Regulation (EC) 1008/2008 on the licensing of air carriers.
Pursuant to Regulatory Administrative Act 620/2002, the Authority consists of nine (9) members, appointed by the Council of Ministers. Ex officio members include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (Chairperson) and the Director of the Civil Aviation Department (Member). The remaining members represent the Law Office of the Republic (Vice-Chairperson), the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, the Treasury of the Republic, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, the Directorate General Growth of the Ministry of Finance and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The term of office of the members of the Authority is three years.
