H.E. MR ANTONIS MANDRITIS
High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of South Africa
Born on the 27th December 1968, in Engomi (Famagusta District) Cyprus, His Excellency Mr Antonis Mandritis, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Pretoria is married with 3 children.
His academic studies earned him a Bachelor Degree in Law from the Artistotelion University of Thessaloniki (specializing in International Studies/Affairs), a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Alliante International University in California, Master of Arts in “Integration de la Union Europea” from ITAM (Instituto Technologico Autonome de Mexico) in Mexico and a Master of Arts in “Integration de la Union Europea” from UAB (Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona) in Barcelona.
Mr Mandritis has 3 published books – “the Cypriot Movement in Thessaloniki, Greece”, “An overview of International and Cyprus Affairs” and “A Journey to the Modern and Contemporary Political History of Cyprus”. Mr Mandritis has also written several articles in Cyprus Newspapers on International Relations. Mr Mandritis is a member of the “Academia De Historia” affiliated to the National University of Mexico (UNAM), as well as a member of the “Academia De Historia Y Estatistica” Department of History, Mexico. Mr Mandritis represented the Republic of Cyprus in many regional and international conferences as participant/speaker and/or as observer.
Mr Mandritis practiced as a Lawyer from 1995 to 1998 and subsequently entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus in 1998 and began his Diplomatic Career. He served in various Departments within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in 1999 was posted as Deputy Head of Mission in Beijing from 1999-2001, Deputy Head of Mission in Mexico City from 2001-2006 and Deputy Head of Mission in Tel Aviv from 2006-2008. At the same time, Mr Mandritis was also the representative/responsible for the Palestinian territories. He then served as General Consul of the Republic of Cyprus in Thessaloniki from 2015-201. After his term of duty ended in Thessaloniki, Mr Mandritis returned to Cyprus and was appointed as the Deputy Head of the Sub-Saharan Africa Department from 2017-2018 and thereafter as Head of the Africa Department from 2018-2021. Mr Mandritis was posted as High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to South Africa in 2021 and has concurrent jurisdiction over 10 other Sub-Saharan Countries, namely Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Eswatini, Lesotho, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
