H.E. Mr. Homer A. Mavrommatis was born on 26 April 1962 in Paphos, Cyprus. He graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics and earned a Graduate Diploma in European Studies from the Institute of Higher European Studies in Strasbourg.
Ambassador Mavrommatis began his diplomatic career in 1989 with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, serving in various key roles, including at the Embassies in Mexico City, Prague, Berlin, and Belgrade. He was Ambassador to Lebanon, Serbia, and Egypt, and held senior positions at the
Ministry, including Director of the Crisis Center and Director of Schengen, Consular Affairs, and Crisis Management.
Since December 2019, he has served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Hungary, with concurrent accreditation to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ambassador Mavrommatis has played a
key role in managing diplomatic efforts during crises, including the 2006 Lebanon repatriation. He has been honored with several decorations, including the Grand Commander of the Order of the
Phoenix from Greece and the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite from France.
Fluent in Greek, English, French, and Spanish, with knowledge of German, Turkish, and Serbian,
Ambassador Mavrommatis is married with three sons and one daughter.
