It is a great honour for me to convey the greetings and warm wishes of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works on the occasion of today’s event, which marks the milestone of 10 million Wizz Air passengers at Larnaka Airport, as well as the 5th anniversary of the company’s base in Cyprus.

This achievement is further proof of the dynamic growth of the air transport sector in Cyprus. As a Ministry, we are consistently working to strengthen the country’s air connectivity, placing emphasis both on the quality of services provided to citizens and visitors, and on enhancing the competitiveness of our economy.

Our goal is for Cyprus to consolidate its role as a regional transport hub, attracting sustained investment and offering modern, reliable, and affordable services. At the same time, we support every initiative that contributes to the sustainability of the sector, encouraging innovation, the green transition, and environmental responsibility.

Collaboration with airlines that have a strong presence, a solid network of routes, and an investment footprint in Cyprus is a strategic priority for us. For this reason, we welcome the progress made, both in terms of expanding routes and in fully utilising the potential of our airports in Larnaka and Pafos.

The policy of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works focuses on creating a stable and attractive environment for air transport—one that improves the country’s accessibility, reinforces its regional role, and supports the broader goal of a competitive, resilient, and sustainable economy. In this context, we are investing in modernising infrastructure, advancing the digital transformation of services, and deepening partnerships with reliable private-sector operators who help strengthen the position of Cyprus on the European and international transport map.

All of the above confirm that Wizz Air is not merely an airline operating in Cyprus. It is a strategic partner that supports our economy, strengthens tourism, creates jobs, and—most importantly—opens new horizons for our citizens and visitors.

Distinguished representatives of Wizz Air,

On behalf of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Alexis Vafeades, and the Ministry, I would like to extend our sincere congratulations on this great achievement and wish you even greater success in the future. I am confident that Wizz Air’s course in Cyprus will continue its upward trajectory, contributing meaningfully to the country’s progress and international outlook.

Thank you
