Makis Keravnos

Minister of Finance

Curriculum Vitae

Makis Keravnos was born in Larnaka and grew up in Lefkosia.

He studied Economics at the University of Athens, completed postgraduate studies in Development Economics, Industrial Relations and received further training in new technology and human resources development.

He worked as a manager in large companies in Cyprus and abroad. From 1983 to 2003, he worked at the Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus, the Training and Development Directorate and the Research and Planning Directorate as a Senior Officer. In March 2003, he was appointed as Minister of Labour and Social Insurance and in May 2004 he was appointed as Minister of Finance, a post he held until the end of 2005. In September 2005, he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Bank, where he served until September 2014. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of CyBC and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Alico Life Insurance company. He was a founding member and elected President of the Pancyprian Association of Economists. Since 2015 he has been an independent consultant in financial matters, management matters, strategic planning and business development. He has lectured at Universities of Cyprus, at the Centre for European and International Affairs of the University of Nicosia and at international conferences. He has published dozens of articles in scientific journals and newspapers. He was appointed as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus from October 2018 until today.

He is married to Niki and he has three children.
