The President of the Republic was decorated by the Patriarch of Jerusalem

The President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides was decorated by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos the Third, at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

At a special ceremony, held at the Patriarchate, on May 11 2023, the President of the Republic was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Knights, by Patriarch Theophilos, which constitutes a supreme honour by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

Accepting the honorary distinction, President Christodoulides said that the Cypriot people are being honoured in his person. He also praised the work of the Patriarchate under difficult circumstances. 

President Christodoulides also referred to the close relations between Cyprus and the Patriarchate and assured of the continuous support of the Government of Cyprus to the Patriarchate. 

The President of the Republic and the Patriarch then walked to the Holy Church of the Resurrection, where President Christodoulides paid his respects at the Holy Sepulcher, and a prayer service followed.

Priests from the Patriarchate accompanied the President of the Republic and the Patriarch of Jerusalem as they walked towards the Holy Sepulcher all the way from the Patriarchate to the Church of the Resurrection, while the bells tolled in celebration of the arrival of the President of the Republic.
