The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, received today, at the Presidential Palace, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms María Angela Holguín Cuéllar.
Following the meeting, which lasted about 75 minutes, Ms Holguín said: “I am very pleased to come back to Cyprus.
I had my first meeting with President Christodoulides and we are agreeing that we have to work hard this month until the next meeting with the Secretary-General, in July, to have some results on the agreement they had in the meeting in March. There was a very good atmosphere, the Secretary-General continued to push for the Cyprus file. I am pleased to be here and I am going to work very hard to have something concrete for July and see what happens after”.
Asked what she meant by “concrete”, she replied: “About the Confidence-Building Measures they agreed in March. So, we want to arrive in July with concrete results of the Confidence Building Measures and this is what I am going to do these days here.”
Asked if she refers to all six Confidence Building Measures, she replied: “This is the ideal. So, we will see what happens”.
