The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, met today with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, Mr Kristen Michal, at the Stenbock House, in Tallin.

Upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s Office, President Christodoulides signed the guest book, where he wrote the following:

“As small countries, both members of the big European family since 2004, Cyprus and Estonia see eye to eye on all big questions of the day. We are like-minded both within the framework of the European Union (EU) and in the various multilateral fora, having common perspectives and priorities. Above all, we share the same set of values and the same determination to defend the norms and principles of International Law and to promote the necessity of universal adherence to them.

The EU’s ability to react effectively and adapt to the challenges posed by the unstable geopolitical environment will define the quality of the future for generations of Europeans to come. I therefore look forward to our close bilateral cooperation in the coming months, knowing how beneficial it can be in our efforts to deliver a Presidency of the Council of the EU that will contribute towards strengthening and expanding our European family, thus ensuring a more secure and prosperous future for all.”

They then had a tête-à-tête meeting, followed by meetings in an extended format.

Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, President Christodoulides met with the President of the Republic of Estonia, Mr Alar Karis, at the President’s Office.

The meeting was held in the presence of the delegations of Cyprus and Estonia.

In the meetings, issues pertaining to the priorities of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU were discussed, as well as bilateral relations, the situation in the Ukraine and the Middle East, and the developments on the Cyprus problem.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, who was accompanied in Estonia by the Deputy Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms Marilena Rauna, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in the Republic of Estonia, based in Helsinki, Mr Demetris Samouel, the Deputy Government Spokesman of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Yiannis Antoniou, and government officials, has concluded his visit to the Baltic countries and returns to Cyprus tonight.
