The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, met today, 30 September 2025, with the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Ms Nadia Calviño, in Lemesos, where the meeting of the Board of EIB is taking place for the first time.
Prior to their bilateral meeting, in her remarks to the media, the President of the EIB said: “I want to thank the President for coming and joining us. We are having a joint meeting of the Board of the EIB and the European Investment Fund here in Cyprus. And I want to thank Cyprus for the warm welcome.
We are having a very productive meeting, which has allowed us also to see the impact of the investments we finance on the ground. We have been able to visit student residences of the Technical University.
Yesterday, we visited the West Lemesos Wastewater Treatment Plant. And since water stress and housing are two of the key challenges of the island, I am really happy and proud that we can see on the ground the impact of European support, the impact of European investments here in Cyprus.
I am also especially happy that here we adopted the second phase of our climate bank roadmap, where we are going to be focusing on projects that contribute to the competitiveness and the security of Europe.
We are going to be doubling investments into adaptation and prevention of the impact of climate change, a challenge that is very clear also here in Cyprus.
We will be radically simplifying our processes to reduce costs and red tape for companies, particularly small and medium-sized companies. So, I thank you from our heart for the warm welcome here in Cyprus”.
On his part, President Christodoulides said: “We thank you for the support of EIB in Cyprus for a number of projects all these years. We also look forward to our future cooperation, especially on issues of great interest for the Republic of Cyprus, like defence and security, research and innovation. We are going to discuss this during our bilateral meeting. Once again, thank you for being in Cyprus”.
