Written statement by the Government Spokesman of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Konstantinos Letymbiotis, on the usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus

From:

Κυβερνητικός Εκπρόσωπος – Ενημέρω

The usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus is not being addressed passively or with tolerance.

In a law abiding, lawful state that faces the painful reality of the Turkish occupation, the duty to make known the magnitude of the illegality is predominant, the implementation of the law is necessitated, and the protection of national interest is imperative.

The unanimous decision delivered today by the Lefkosia Assize Court, to impose a five-year prison term, following an admission by an accused person for committing offences related to usurpation, indicates the seriousness of the said offence.

At the same time, the decision sends out a strong message about the repercussions that can be brought on those who try to be or are already implicated in such transactions and in the relevant international sequence of usurpation.
