Written statement by the Government Spokesman, Mr Konstantinos Letymbiotis, on the appointment of the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, exercising the powers conferred by the Constitution, has appointed Dr Nicholas A. Ioannides as the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection.

The establishment of the Deputy Ministry is an important milestone for our country in relation to the effective management of the migration issue.

President Christodoulides expressed his sincere gratitude to the Minister of Interior, Mr Konstantinos Ioannou, and his colleagues, whose efforts led to significant results in the effective handling of the migration issue in our country. President Christodoulides is confident that the Minister of Interior will cooperate closely with Dr Ioannides and support him, especially at the onset of organising the Deputy Ministry.

The Government’s targeted policy will continue with commitment and determination, with the Deputy Ministry as the central body for the planning, coordination and supervision of the pertinent government departments. The improved stage of affairs, is the result of targeted measures implemented over the past year, and will be further enhanced with the establishment of the new Deputy Ministry under the leadership of Dr Nicholas A. Ioannides.
