The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, received today a letter from the United Nations’ Secretary-General, Mr António Guterres, inviting him to participate in the expanded meeting on the Cyprus problem, to be held in Geneva on the 17th and 18th of March.

In his letter, the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General notes that the aim of the meeting is to have a meaningful exchange of views on how to make progress on the Cyprus problem. As mentioned, the meeting will begin with a dinner on 17 March and will continue on the morning of 18 March with bilateral contacts. This will be followed by a plenary meeting of the participants at the UN building, Palais des Nations.

The detailed agenda of the meeting will be announced in the near future.

At the same time, the Secretary-General reiterates the firm commitment of the UN to the search for a common framework for progress on the Cyprus problem, expressing the hope that this meeting will give impetus for positive momentum for the future.

As the Republic of Cyprus, we move forward to this expanded meeting with a constructive attitude and sincere political will, with the aim of providing a springboard for the resumption of negotiations from the point they were left off.
