Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus in Ramallah

In light of the worrisome developments in the Middle East, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Constantinos Kombos, traveled today, Monday, October 30, 2023, from Amman to Ramallah for contacts with Palestinian officials.
Dr Kombos met with the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Riad Malki, and other officials of the Palestinian Authority, with whom he discussed the need to avoid a regional deterioration of the crisis, as well as the urgent humanitarian needs of civilians in the area.
In this context, Cyprus’ initiative to develop a safe and sustainable maritime humanitarian sea corridor from Cyprus to Gaza was discussed.
A significant financial assistance by the Republic of Cyprus to the Palestinians was also announced and the importance of continued humanitarian assistance from the EU was highlighted.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Cyprus’ firm position based on principles, for the resumption of the peace process in the Middle East for a two-state solution, based on the relevant United Nations Resolutions.
