The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus attended the Inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Cyprus

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Constantinos Kombos, had the honour to represent the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, at the Inauguration Mass of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, held yesterday, 18 May 2025, in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican.

The ceremony was a deeply significant moment for the global Catholic community and the international community at large, drawing over 200,000 faithful and more than 200 official delegations from around the world.

Following the Mass, Minister Kombos was received in a private audience by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. During the cordial meeting, Minister Kombos conveyed the personal greetings and heartfelt congratulations of President Christodoulides.

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV highlighted the enduring bonds and shared values that unite the Holy See and the Republic of Cyprus, recalling the island’s historic Christian heritage and its role as a bridge between cultures and faiths.
