The High Commissioner of Cyprus to Malawi presents his credentials

The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Malawi, Mr Antonis Mandritis, presented his credentials to the President of the country, Mr Lazarus Chakwera, at a ceremony held on 21 November 2023 at the Presidential Palace in Lilongwe.

During the ceremony, Mr Mandritis conveyed to the President of Malawi and the people of the country, the heartfelt greetings of the President of the Republic and the people of Cyprus. President Chakwera reciprocated by conveying his best wishes to the leadership and people of Cyprus.

In the meeting that followed, the good level of relations between Cyprus and Malawi was reaffirmed, as well as the willingness of both sides to further strengthen and reinforce them, both on a bilateral and international level. In this respect, they referred to the willingness of both countries to further enhance their cooperation within international organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth, with full commitment to international legality.

High Commissioner Mandritis briefed President Chakwera on the latest developments in the Cyprus question and the ongoing efforts of our side to find a just and viable solution. In this context, the President of Malawi expressed his country’s support in the efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus question, in accordance to international law and the UN Charter. He also expressed his gratitude for Cyprus’ support, especially of the first President of the Republic Archbishop Makarios, in the struggle of the African people for independence.

During his stay in Malawi, Mr Mandritis held a series of meetings with officials including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Tourism, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, parliamentarians, and ambassadors of countries who are accredited to the country.
