The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Lebanon presents her credentials

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Lebanon, Ms Maria Hadjitheodosiou, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Lebanon, Mr Joseph Aoun, during an official ceremony on 5 February 2025. During the ceremony, the Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, underlining the close historical ties of friendship and cooperation between Cyprus and Lebanon. The Ambassador also expressed Cyprus’ commitment to further promote bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Ms Hadjitheodosiou stressed the importance of strengthening European Union (EU)-Lebanon relations and underlined the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus in this direction. She said that a letter has already been sent by President Christodoulides to the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission to upgrade relations to a strategic partnership and to promote new measures of support from the EU to Lebanon. The Ambassador expressed her commitment to work hard to strengthen ties between the two countries, building on her position and cooperation within the EU.

President Aoun thanked the Republic of Cyprus for its action within the EU on behalf of the Republic of Lebanon and praised the historic friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He underlined that President Christodoulides’ recent visit to Lebanon serves as proof of the excellent bilateral relations and expressed his wish to visit Cyprus soon, as a sign of mutual respect and cooperation. The President expressed his optimism for a better future for Lebanon, with stability, prosperity and peace in the region, and thanked the EU for its continued support to the country and the Lebanese people.
