Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
19/07/24 19:47 | Press release | Foreign Policy, Cyprus Problem
Yesterday’s resolution of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey embodies an attempt to distort History. It attempts to pervert the fact that Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, as well as the continuing occupation of 36.2% of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, in the last 50 years.
The Republic of Cyprus will never accept the occupation’s fait accompli.
Our goal remains the liberation of the Republic of Cyprus from Turkey and the end of the violent division, leading to the reunification of its people on the island.
We aspire to a peaceful, European future for our island, its reunification in accordance with the Resolutions of the United Nations and the European acquis communautaire.
