Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the operation of the Chora Church as Muslim Mosque
08/05/24 12:37 | Press release | Foreign Policy
The implementation of Turkey’s decision to operate the Chora Church in Istanbul as a Muslim Mosque violates the UNESCO Convention, which has listed it as a World Heritage Site. As a country which is a victim of the same approach by Turkey for fifty consecutive years, we unequivocally condemn such actions.
We call on the international community to support the preservation of the ecumenical character of such monuments, as well as the protection of the religious and cultural heritage.
