Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus on the informal summit of the Organisation of Turkic States
07/07/24 09:42 | Press release | Foreign Policy
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus unequivocally condems the Turkish attempts to promote the secessionist entity in contravention of International Law.
As part of Ankara’s efforts, officials from the secessionist entity were invited by Azerbaijan to the informal summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha. The OTS is being used once again by Ankara as a means of promoting the secessionist entity.
The Republic of Cyprus is taking all necessary measures, demanding the appropriate respect for its sovereignty, its territorial integrity, and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions.
Moreover, we express our strong disappointment and discontent as regards the participation of Hungarian senior officials in the OTS informal summit.
Their participation constitutes a grave misstep, for which all pertinent representations are being made at all levels.
We anticipate from all our European partners, including the member state which assumed the Presidenty of the Council of the European Union (EU) only five days ago, to fully respect the UN Resolutions on Cyprus, International Law as well as the obligations arising from the acquis communautaire as EU member states.
We expect every member state to manifest the pertinent solidarity, responsibility and pragmatic support on a matter of crucial and vital importance for the Republic of Cyprus as well as for the EU, and to act on the basis of the relevant European Council Conclusions.
