Announcement by the Presidency of the Republic regarding the appointment by the Secretary-General of the United Nations of his personal envoy on the Cyprus problem

The President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, welcomes the decision of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Mr António Guterres, to appoint Ms María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, as his personal envoy on the Cyprus problem.
The President of the Republic, from the first day of assuming his duties, has set a goal to reactivate the international factor and especially the UN to explore the prospect of the resumption of talks from the point that they were stopped in 2017 at Crans-Montana.
President Christodoulides remains focused on continuing to work with clear political will for the resumption of talks on the agreed framework, as well as for the conclusion of the talks with finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, on the basis of the resolutions of the UN and the principles and values of the European Union.
