Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the decision of the Committee of Deputy Ministers of the Council of Europe regarding the 4th Interstate Case Cyprus v. Turkey
19/09/24 18:41 | Press release | Foreign PolicyThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its satisfaction regarding today’s decision of the Committee of Deputy Ministers (Human Rights) of the Council of Europe (CoE) to maintain the supervision of the execution of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decision regarding the cluster of the property rights of displaced persons of the 4th interstate case Cyprus v. Turkey. Today’s positive development is the outcome of systematic diplomatic efforts carried out in full co-operation with the Legal Service of the Republic of Cyprus.
Cyprus’ position remains firm that the illegal sale and exploitation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas by Turkey, which has intensified over the last years, violates the ECtHR’s relevant judgments.
Today’s decision by the Committee reaffirms that the violations of property rights identified by the Court, regarding the illegal use and exploitation of Greek Cypriot properties by Turkey in the occupied areas, continue to exist. At the same time, it demonstrates the Committee’s determination to ensure that Turkey faithfully implements the Court’s decision and that, as long as it continues not to comply with the relevant decisions of the ECtHR, the termination of the supervision of the execution of the cluster cannot occur.
