The event will be addressed by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr Nicodemos Damianou, the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology, Mr Demetris Skourides, and the President of the Academy, Mr Achilles C. Emilianides.

The visit of the President of ERC in Cyprus, as a guest of the Academy, is part of the objectives of the Academy for further advancement of scientific research in the Republic and strengthening its scientists. The ERC was established under the EU’s 7th Framework Programme and is the EU agency spearheading fundamental advances at and beyond the frontier of knowledge. It continued under Horizon 2020 (2014-2020) and is further strengthened as part of the new programme, Horizon Europe (2021-2027). The budget has been constantly growing, following its success, reaching 16 billion euros in the last programme. The ERC awards grants through open competitions to projects headed by starting or established researchers. The sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence.
