World Statistics Day 2025: “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone”
From:
The World Statistics Day, celebrated every five years, will be observed for the fourth time on 20 October 2025, highlighting the importance of quality statistics and data in today’s world. Reliable statistics form the foundation of transparency, democracy, and progress, providing trustworthy information about society, the economy, and the environment. Through statistics, citizens, institutions and organisations can better understand developments and plan the future responsibly. This day serves as an opportunity to emphasise the crucial role of statistics in making evidence-based decisions for the common good.
This year’s theme, “Quality statistics and data for everyone”, underscores that quality and accessibility of statistics are a right of every citizen. In our digital age, access to data is easier than ever, but ensuring reliability, protecting personal data, and correctly interpreting statistical information remain key challenges.
In this context, the Statistical Service of Cyprus, as the competent authority for the production and publication of most of the country’s official statistics, reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the quality, independence, and transparency of the data it produces. CYSTAT continues to invest in innovative technologies and methods, such as artificial intelligence and the use of new data sources, to respond to the growing needs of users and to promote statistical literacy. Active public engagement, continuous communication with users, and strengthening trust in official statistics remain top priorities for the Statistical Service.
As part of the celebration of World Statistics Day, the Statistical Service of Cyprus and the Cyprus Statistical Society are organising an event entitled “Sports and Health Analytics: Data-Based Stories for Everyone”. The event will take place on 20 October at 11:00, at the Jean Monnet Amphitheatre (M-203), University of Nicosia.
In addition, the Statistical Service, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, the University of Cyprus, and the Cyprus Statistical Society, will announce on 20 October 2025 the launch of the European Statistics Competition in Cyprus 2025–2026. The competition aims to promote statistical literacy and will be held among secondary school students during the 2025–2026 academic year.
