The Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT) is launching the European Health Interview Survey in Households for the year 2025. The survey, which is carried out every six years, is conducted in accordance with the Regulation (EU) 2019/1700 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which all EU member states are obliged to implement.

The main objective of the survey is to study the health status of the population of the Republic of Cyprus and the use of health services. In particular, the survey will cover topics such as chronic health problems, physical and emotional status, use of health services, use of medications, prevention, nutrition, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity etc. The results of the survey will facilitate policy making and planning in the health sector, at national and European level.

The survey is conducted on a sample basis and will cover 4,000 households in urban and rural areas of the Republic Cyprus.

The briefing of households and the collection of data will take place during the period September – December 2025. For this purpose, trained enumerators, who will bear a special identity card of the Statistical Service, will contact the sample households by a personal visit for information and appointment arrangement for the completion of the survey questionnaire. The enumerators may contact the households by using a CYSTAT’s phone number (landline or mobile).

In case households wish to verify that the telephone number that has called them belongs to an employee of the Statistical Service, they can enter the number in the special tool available on the Statistical Service web portal for confirmation.

The survey is conducted in accordance with the Official Statistics Law of 2021 (Law No. 25(I)/2021). According to the Law, the provision of data for statistical purposes by any person is mandatory. Any person who refuses, omits or neglects to provide data to the Statistical Service, does not comply with the deadlines set or provides false, incomplete or inaccurate data is liable to the consequences of the Law. The Statistical Service is obliged to keep the data reported as confidential and to use them exclusively for statistical purposes. The results are disseminated in a format that provides the respondents with the appropriate safeguards as to the protection of their personal data.
