European Statistics Competition, National Phase – Award Ceremony

The award ceremony for the National Phase of the European Statistics Competition 2024-2025 finalist teams took place yesterday at the University of Cyprus. The competition, which is now an established event in Cyprus, is co-organised by the Statistical Service, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the University of Cyprus, and the Cyprus Statistical Society. Its aim is to promote statistical literacy and teamwork among secondary school students.
This year’s competition saw the participation of 461 students, forming 164 teams. The competition consisted of two assignments: in the first, all teams competed on basic statistical knowledge, the use of official statistical sources and the interpretation of statistical reports. In the second assignment, the qualifying teams presented a statistical analysis based on a predefined dataset, which was assessed by a jury.
The winners of the national phase are eligible to represent Cyprus in the European final, held between April and May 2025. The organisers expressed their warm congratulations to all participants, commending the high level of performance and the special interest in the field of statistics.
