Medical care of asylum seekers

Use this service to

1.         The Ministry of Health provides the necessary healthcare treatment to Asylum Seekers. Healthcare services are provided at Public Hospitals (https://shso.org.cy). Respectively, their medical needs are covered by the pharmacies of the Public Hospitals.

2.         Asylum Seekers, during the first year from the date of submission of the application for international protection, will be accepted at the Public Hospitals, upon presentation of the document "Confirmation of Submission of an Application for International Protection", issued by the Asylum Service, instead of a Medical Card.

3.         It is clarified that the period of one year starts from the date of submission of the application for international protection as it is written in the upper left part of the above-mentioned document. It is further clarified that whenever a Medical Card is available and presented, it will also be accepted.

4.         After the expiration of the first year, Asylum Seekers will no longer be able to register using the "Confirmation of Submission of an Application for International Protection" and a valid Medical Card should be presented. Therefore, arrangements should be made, to secure a Medical Card in time.

5.         In this respect, the Asylum Seeker should fill in the Application form for the Medical Card and either submit it in person to the Ministry of Health or send it to the email address AsylumMed@moh.gov.cy. All required documents should be attached and should be readable.

6.         When the application is submitted by e-mail, the Medical Card will be sent to the mailing address indicated on the application.
