The Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture announces that on Thursday, 19th June 2025, representatives of the businessman, Mr Nicos Shacolas, handed over to Officers of the Department of Antiquities 91 antiquities that were exhibited in the offices of the Shacolas Group, with the permission of the Department of Antiquities. The antiquities have been recorded in the inventories of the Department of Antiquities since 1973 and consist mainly of ceramic vessels dating from the Early Bronze Age to the Medieval period.

The antiquities have been transported to the storerooms of the Cyprus Museum and their registration, digitisation, and conservation has already begun. At the same time, the Department of Antiquities is examining the possibility to use part of the antiquities in the various activities undertaken for the promotion of the archaeological wealth of Cyprus.

The Department of Antiquities, as the competent authority of the Republic of Cyprus for the protection and management of the island’s archaeological heritage, wishes to express its gratitude to Mr Nicos Shacolas for handing over the antiquities. The role of the public has proven to be crucial for the protection and promotion of our archaeological heritage.
