Events at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art – Majestic to celebrate the International Museum Day
07/05/25 15:33 | Press release | Culture
The International Museum Day, 18 May, is celebrated again this year, under the theme “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”. The overall programme in Cyprus is coordinated by the National ICOM Committee, under the responsibility of the Department of Antiquities, Deputy Ministry of Culture.
The State Gallery of Contemporary Art – Majestic participates in this year’s celebrations with three events, taking place on Saturday, 17 May 2025. This day invites the public to reflect on how cultural identity can be preserved and redefined, while strengthening the role of museums as essential pillars of social development.
The programme includes music and dance performances and interactive walking experiences for families, alongside an atmospheric electronic music DJ set for adult audiences as part of a broader effort to redefine cultural spaces as living organisms integrated in the urban landscape.
1. Saturday, 17 May 2025, 10:30-11:30
“Bodies in Motion”: Music and dance performance for families with children from the age of 1 year
“Bodies in Motion” is a dance and music performance especially designed for families with children aged 1 and above. The performance uses movement and live music to create an environment of experimentation and interaction. Three dancers and three musicians act as “guides,” leading the audience on a journey of exploration through the senses and imagination.
Together, they will discover the relationship between sound and movement, explore gravity, touch, and breath in moments of observation and interaction. Musicians and dancers are called to deal with different scenarios and emotions such as hesitation, competitiveness, and fatigue in order to reach the end of their journey – where the excitement of discovery and the joy of creation await.
Choreography: Zoe Georgallis in collaboration with the dancers
Dancers: Ioli Kaskani, Elisavet Panayiotou, Sofia Irakleous
Music composition: William Scott
Musicians: William Scott, Christina Polykarpou, Ulaş Öğüç
