Announcement by the Department of Antiquities regarding damages at Archaeological Sites and Monuments as a result of the wildfires in Lemesos

The Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture announces that its crews are performing site-specific inspections at the areas affected by the wildfires that broke out in Lemesos District between 23-25 July 2025, where 62 archaeological sites and monuments are registered. The crews have recorded so far that the following ancient monuments have not been affected by the wildfire:

  • Agios Amvrosios:
    • Church of Agia Elisavet
    • Church of Agios Ambrosios
    • Church of Agios Georgios
  • Agios Therapon:
    • Olive mill
  • Alassa:
    • Medieval Building
    • Archaeological site at Paliotaverna
    • Archaeological site at Pano Mantilaris
  • Arsos:
    • Church of Apostolos Philippos
    • Church of Panagia Katholiki
    • House of Folk Architecture
  • Vasa Koilaniou:
    • Church of Agios Georgios
    • Carved hermitages of Apostolos Timon and Osios Varnavas
  • Vouni:
    • Church of Timios Prodromos
    • Old fountains (2)
  • Erimi:
    • Archaeological site at Laonin tou Porakou
  • Kantou:
    • Church of Agia Marina
    • Church of Agia Napa
    • Watermill at the locality of Laspera
    • Watermill at the locality Pelentros
  • Kissousa:
    • Church of Agios Sergios
  • Koilani:
    • Church of Agia Mavri
    • Church of Monogenis
    • Church of Panagia Eleousi
    • Ruins of the church Agios Andronikos
    • Bridge at Kruos Potamos

Unfortunately, the following Ancient Monuments have suffered damage from the wildfires, which will be evaluated further as soon as the conditions allow:

  • Kissousa:
    • Watermill at the locality Kapsalia
  • Potamiou:
    • Medieval bridge at the locality Eliomulos
  • Souni-Zanakia:
    • Early Christian ruins at the locality Chiliantris
    • Ruins of the church of Agios Stylianos
    • Byzantine building complex at the locality AspriMoutti
    • Ruins of church of Agios Sialloumis
    • Ruins of two churches.
