The Deputy Communications Commissioner Mr Petros Galides was a speaker at the “9th Annual Copenhagen Economics Postal and Delivery Conference 2023”

The Deputy Commissioner for Communications, Mr Petros Galides, Chairman of the ERGP – European Regulators Group for Postal Services for 2023, was a speaker at the 9th Annual Copenhagen Economics Postal and Delivery Conference 2023 in Copenhagen on the 8^th of May.

Mr Galides analysed ERGP direction and priorities for 2023, given the radical transformation the postal sector is going through, and emphasized that the Future Postal Regulatory Framework needs to adapt to the development of a competitive market, new players and business models, and new user needs. It needs to continue protecting users relying on post as a means of communication and for the delivery of goods, and continue protecting competition, society, workers and the environment. It further needs to adopt clear and more harmonized rules on consumer protection and recognise that the shift from sender-oriented to receiver-oriented service provision calls for a continued and increased attention to safeguarding consumer needs and interests.

The conference was attended by regulators, postal providers, e-commerce companies and business associations, among others. Issues related to important market developments and their implications for the competitive and regulatory landscape in the postal and delivery sector, lessons learned from adjacent industries and from postal markets across Europe and cross-border delivery and the role of the UPU were examined and discussed.
