The Deputy Commissioner for Communications was elected President of the EMERG for the year 2024

The Deputy Commissioner for Communications, Mr Petros Galides, was elected President of the European Mediterranean Regulators Group for Electronic Communications Networks and Services (European Mediterranean Regulators Group – EMERG) for the year 2024.
The candidacy of Mr Petros Galides was voted by a large majority of the Plenary of the European and Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG), while, in addition to the Presidency for 2024, Mr Petros Galides has already assumed duties as Co-Chairman, since he was elected Co-Chair, together with Israel, for the year 2023.
EMERG was founded on July 1, 2008 in Malta, as an independent platform of the National Regulatory Authorities of the Mediterranean and European countries for electronic communications networks and services. The EMERG Member Countries are Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey.
The principles of EMERG derive from the ideals and principles of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation defined in the Barcelona Declaration of 28 November 1995, which establishes the principles of a cooperative relationship aimed at establishing the Mediterranean region in a common area of peace, stability and prosperity through the strengthening of political dialogue and cooperation in matters of security, economy, society and culture.
