The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment firmly rejects the statements mentioned in the Politico article, the content of which is inaccurate
Following the publication of the article “Waste scandal haunts Cyprus’ EU pick as he heads to Brussels,” the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has informed Politico that it firmly rejects the statements mentioned within the article, the content of which is inaccurate. It is noted that the owner of the Pentakomo Integrated Waste Management Facility (OEDA) is the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, which is acting on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus. The operation and management of this facility are undertaken by the Department of Water Development.
We have informed the newspaper that the questions it addressed to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, which pertain to the operation and management of the OEDA Pentakomou, are directly related to issues under pending legal proceedings between the Department of Water Development and the former Contractor. Therefore, it would not be appropriate at this time to make any further statements or comments on the matter. The facts and the State’s position will be placed before the Court.
It is noted that the proper operation and upgrade of the OEDA Pentakomou, within the framework of the holistic and correct management of all waste management units and infrastructure, as outlined in the strategy we are following, is our main priority, on the basis of which we are working with dedication.
