System of Assessing Disability and Functioning

The project, which as of 1/1/2021 is part of the new programming period 2021-2027 entitled “Extension and Upgrading of the New Disability Assessment System”, is co-funded by the European Social Fund with a budget of €10.5 million, It is a continuation of the project “Implementation of the New Disability and Functioning Assessment System in Cyprus”, which was implemented during the 2007-2013 programming period, as well as the project “Extension of the Implementation of the New Disability and Functioning Assessment System”, which was implemented during the 2014-2020 programming period.

The first project designed, developed and piloted the new Disability and Functional Assessment System with the establishment and operation of a Disability Assessment Centre and the System Management Unit in Nicosia.

With the expansion in 2014-2020, the Disability Assessment Centres in Limassol and Larnaca began operations in order to address the increased needs of new applicants and existing recipients of social benefits and services of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare.

From the start of the project at the end of 2013 until the end of 2024, assessments were conducted for a total of 28,162 persons with disabilities who applied for social benefits and services offered by the Department or the Welfare Benefits Administration or other government agencies, and who received a comprehensive report certifying the type and extent of their disability and their eligibility for social benefits and services.
